All public roads where a photo radar device may be used are indicated by signs with the “camera” pictograph. About 160 sites were identified for the use of photo radar devices in Québec. This number does not include school zones and certain roadwork zones.

The list of roadwork sites targeted for photo radar operations can be consulted on the Québec 511 website.
First, the Cities and the Ministère identify sites where the use of photo radar devices or red light cameras could be appropriate. Then, an advisory committee made up of representatives of the ministère des Transports, the ministère de la Sécurité publique, the Sûreté du Québec and, when they are concerned, the city authorities (transport and police services), analyzes the locations identified based on specific criteria such as:
The advisory committee makes recommendations to the responsible authorities. The sites selected are suggested to the Minister of Transport and the Minister of Public Security, who determine by ministerial order the public roads where the devices could be used.
